The Luminous Self in Yoga Journal: “The 10 Books we couldn’t put down this year”

In her long-awaited second book, Stanley brings us perspective and practices on what she refers to as, “ the sacredness of self-remembrance.” Her book begins with her being bullied in school as an eleven-year-old and her resulting emotions and behaviors. She asks all of us, “Think of all the masks that YOU have put on over the years. Which ones have you forgotten to take off?”

This is a book about the countless ways we self-abandon, the search for our truest self, and the alchemy that takes place when we do so, written by someone who understands the resistance that often accompanies that search. Stanley shares insights, questions, assignments, principles of yoga, and meditations designed to take us back to that essence from which we began. It’s a book to be lingered over and returned to again and again in our search for the sacred self.
